The City of Atwater has several programs to assist local businesses in being more prosperous, including:
- State of California Enterprise Zone Designation
- Foreign Trade Zone Designation
- Local Revolving Loan Fund
- Entrepreneur Training Program
- Access to business counseling and customer service training programs
- Recycling Market Development Zone Designation
The City also has adopted as part of its mission to continuously work to improve local economic development conditions by being proactive and helpful to our business partners.
The City has a close working relationship with the Atwater Chamber of Commerce. This relationship allows for information to be shared back and forth. The Chamber and its members are aware of issues and opportunities within the community from the City's perspective. The City is also advised of issues facing local businesses and the Chamber plays a key role in understanding potential impacts that may arise from local policies which may affect businesses.
The City is also a member of the Merced County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDCO) which is the lead agency at the County level to advance economic opportunities throughout the entire county. MCEDCO is single point of contact for leads or prospects generated through the State of California and the California Central Valley Economic Development Council. MCEDCO assists the City in preparing responses to these state wide or regional opportunities and advances the marketing of the community. MCEDCO also assists the city in capacity building, adding services and infrastructure which businesses need to perform well.
