Programs & Activities

 

The Recreation Division is responsible for coordinating and supervising quality recreational programs, activities and events for adults and children.

We offer a variety of athletic programs for participants of all ability levels, from the competitive, to the group of co-workers looking to spend some quality time together away from the work environment.

Our youth programs are designed to create a safe and positive environment for everyone involved.

 

Youth Activities

INDOOR SOCCER
A non-competitive league designed for children ages 4 to 6 years old. This program is designed to teach the game of soccer to young individuals and to encourage teamwork and good sportsmanship. All practices and games will be played at the Atwater Community Center. Ages: 4 to 6 year old (must be 4 years old when program starts and can not be 7 before program ends)

Registration Begins: April
Registration Ends: When Full (40 participants)
League Begins: Mid May (practices) Mid June (games)

SUMMER DROP IN PROGRAM
Children can participate in many forms of recreational activities under the supervision of qualified Recreational Leaders. The Drop-In Program is held at the Youth Center at Castle Park, Monday thru Friday from 10:00am to 3:00pm Ages: 6 to 12 years.

Registration Begins: May
Registration Ends: When full (Maximum 150 participants)
Program Dates: 7 weeks starting in June

SUMMER RECREATIONAL SWIM
The Atwater High School Pool is available during the summer months from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The pool is supervised by Lifeguards who are certified by the American Red Cross.

Open Swim Begins: Mid June
Open Swim Ends: Early August

FLAG FOOTBALL
Designed for participants who want to play football at a less physically demanding level than that of tackle football. Games will be played weeknights at Memorial Ball Park. The flag football league is open to boys and girls who are currently enrolled in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grades (lower division) and 5th and 6th grades (upper division). Practices are scheduled to begin in mid September with league games being played from mid October to late November. Most practices and all league games will take place on weekday evenings at Memorial Ballpark.

Registration Ends: When full (Maximum 120 participants)
League Begins: Early October (7 Weeks)

GIRLS YOUTH VOLLEYBALL
This program is designed for girls in grades 4th through 9th. The league is divided into upper and lower divisions based on grade level. Volunteer coaches teach the fundamentals and guide the participants through a fun and exciting season.

Registration Begins: October
Registration Ends: When full (Maximum 120 participants)
League Begins: Mid-November

YOUTH BASKETBALL
This program provides an opportunity for children Kindergarten through High School to participate in a basketball league. The leagues in this program are divided by grade and gender to maintain the highest level of competitiveness and enjoyment. The program is divided into 7 divisions. Game days may vary for each division.

Registration Begins: November
Registration Ends: When full
League Begins: Mid-January for 9 weeks

 

Adult Activities

ADULT CO-ED VOLLEYBALL
This league has three levels of play - Upper, Middle and Lower Divisions. Games will be played on Monday and Wednesday nights at the Atwater Community Center. A maximum of 16 teams will be accepted in this league. Rosters are limited to 12 players. All players must be at least 18 years of age.

Registration Begins: Early January
Registration Ends: Late January
League Begins: Mid February (8 - 10 weeks)

ADULT SUMMER SLO-PITCH SOFTBALL
Many levels of play for both men and women, ranging from the serious to the not so serious softball player. Rosters are limited to 18 players. All games will be played on weeknights on Osborn and Miyake Fields.

Registration Begins: Early March
Registration Ends: Late March
League Begins: Mid to late April (15 weeks)

ADULT SUMMER CO-ED SOFTBALL
Two Levels of play are offered - Upper and Lower Divisions. Games will be played on Wednesday nights on Osborn and Miyake Fields. Women will hit a regular 11 inch softball and men will hit a 12 inch incrediball. A maximum of six teams will be placed in each League.

Registration Begins: Early May
Registration Ends: Late May
League Begins: Mid June (8 - 10 weeks)

MEN’S SUMMER BASKETBALL
Games will be played on Sundays at the Atwater High School Gymnasium. The program will consist of a 7 week regular season and a single elimination playoff tournament. Seedings for the tournament will be determined by the regular season standings. A maximum of 8 teams will be accepted for this league. Rosters are limited to 12 players.

Registration Begins: Early May
Registration Ends: Late May (or until league fills)
League Begins: Early June (7 - 9 weeks)

MENS FALL SLO-PITCH SOFTBALL
Levels of play will be determined upon the number of teams that register. Games will be played weeknights on Osborn and Miyake Fields. A maximum of six teams will be placed in each League. Rosters are limited to 18 players.

Registration Begins: Late July
Registration Ends: Mid - Late August
League Begins: Early - Mid September (7 - 10 weeks)

ADULT FALL CO-ED SOFTBALL
Two Levels of play are offered - Upper and Lower Divisions. Games will be played on Wednesday nights on Osborn and Miyake Fields. Women will hit a regular 11 inch softball and men will hit a 12 inch incrediball. A maximum of six teams will be placed in each League.

League Begins: Early November (10 - 12 weeks)

OSBORN PARK TENNIS COURTS
Play tennis year round on two lighted and recently resurfaced tennis courts. To obtain access to these two nicely maintained courts, a key must be purchased from the Recreation Department.

New keys are available for purchase on March 1st of each year.
